PETALING JAYA, 4 June 2024 (FMT) - Former Endau assemblywoman Alwiyah Talib has announced her resignation from Bersatu and rejoined Umno, the party where she began her political career. The ex-Mersing Bersatu chief emphasized that her decision was made voluntarily, stressing it was driven by her commitment to the well-being of her constituents in Endau.
Alwiyah first won the Endau seat in 2018 under Umno, securing a majority of 3,030 votes. Following Barisan Nasional’s fall from power, she left Umno to join Bersatu and was re-elected in 2022 on a Perikatan Nasional ticket, defeating her Umno rival by 3,041 votes.
In her statement, she declared: “I hereby announce my departure from Bersatu and resignation from all party posts effective immediately as I rejoin Umno.”
