YEMEN, 29/3/2026 - Yemen’s Iran-backed Houthi rebels fired a second missile toward Israel within hours on Saturday, marking a sharp escalation in the widening Middle East conflict.
According to Israeli security officials, the second projectile—identified as a cruise missile—followed an earlier launch the same day. Both missiles were successfully intercepted by Israel’s air defense systems, with no reported casualties or damage.
The back-to-back strikes signal the Houthis’ formal entry into the ongoing regional war involving Iran, Israel, and the United States. The group has framed its attacks as a response to what it describes as “aggression” against Iran and allied forces across the region.
Houthi military spokesperson Yahya Saree said the group had targeted what it called “sensitive Israeli military sites,” and warned that operations would continue in the coming days.
The escalation raises fears of a broader regional conflict, as fighting intensifies across multiple fronts. Ongoing hostilities already involve Iran, Hezbollah in Lebanon, and various armed groups in Iraq and Yemen, while global concerns grow over potential disruptions to key shipping routes such as the Red Sea and Strait of Hormuz.
Analysts say the Houthis’ involvement significantly increases the risk of further destabilization, potentially drawing more regional and international actors into the conflict.
