KUALA LUMPUR, 25 June 2026 (BERNAMA) — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim remains Malaysia’s most favored political leader, securing a 52 percent popularity rating in a newly released public opinion poll.
The survey, conducted by the independent pollster Merdeka Center between March 12 and April 9, 2026, offers a fresh glimpse into national sentiment regarding political leadership, government performance, and the overall trajectory of the country.
According to the findings, public perception of the Federal Government's performance is closely divided. Half of the registered voters surveyed (50 percent) expressed satisfaction with the current administration, while 48 percent reported feeling dissatisfied.
Meanwhile, public sentiment on the nation's trajectory has stabilized. The survey noted that 42 percent of respondents believe Malaysia is moving in the right direction—a figure that has remained consistent with data gathered in December 2025 and February 2026.
Demographic Divergence
The Merdeka Center data revealed notable variances in government satisfaction across different ethnic communities and age groups.
Approval was highest among Sabah and Sarawak Bumiputera respondents at 68 percent. This was followed by Chinese respondents at 53 percent, Indian respondents at 46 percent, and Malay respondents at 44 percent.
The administration found its strongest base of optimism among younger citizens. Voters aged 21 to 30 emerged as the most supportive demographic, with 57 percent stating the country is on the right track and 64 percent expressing satisfaction with the Federal Government's performance.
