Amira Aisya is The New MUDA's President

PETALING JAYA, March 14 – Amira Aisya Abdul Aziz has been chosen as the new president of the Malaysian United Democratic Alliance (MUDA) following the party’s first-ever internal elections.

Although she placed third in the race for a spot on the central executive committee (CEC) with 103 votes, Amira was later selected by the top 25 elected members to lead the party. Former information chief Leben Siddarth topped the CEC polls with 110 votes, while Saiyidah Izzati Nur came in second with 104 votes.

Amira had been serving as acting president since 2023, after Muar MP Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman stepped down. Her formal election was widely anticipated once she secured a place in the CEC.

The inaugural polls, which saw participation from about 125 delegates, were described as a crucial test of MUDA’s ability to move beyond the influence of its founder, Syed Saddiq, who chose not to contest due to his ongoing legal proceedings.

Following her victory, Amira unveiled MUDA’s new leadership lineup. Zaidel Baharuddin was named deputy president, while Leben Siddarth, Faezrah Rizalman, Dobby Chew, Dr. Siva Prakash, and Zarul Afiq were appointed vice-presidents. Rasid Abu Bakar will serve as information chief, and Ainie Haziqah will continue as secretary-general. Additional appointments, including the treasurer, are expected to be announced after Hari Raya.

The elections, delayed for more than a year, have drawn attention as a pivotal moment for the youth-based party as it seeks to strengthen its identity and chart a course independent of its founding leader.
