(FMT) - The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) will take a statement from James Chai, a former aide to ex-economy minister Rafizi Ramli, on April 28 as part of an ongoing investigation.

Chai, who is currently based in the UK, confirmed the arrangement in an Instagram post and thanked his lawyers for providing pro bono assistance. He expressed hope that the process would be handled “fairly and professionally,” adding that he looks forward to explaining matters fully.

MACC had earlier issued a public search notice for Chai on March 4, offering to cover his travel expenses. The notice did not specify the reason he was sought, but it followed investigations into alleged misconduct linked to a RM1.1 billion government deal with chipmaker Arm Holdings signed in March last year.

Chai criticised the search notice for including his childhood home address, saying it was excessive and gave the impression he was evading authorities.
