KUALA LUMPUR, (FMT) - A former top police officer testified in the High Court that bags and orange boxes were seen being moved from Najib Razak’s residence to a nearby apartment just days after Barisan Nasional’s defeat in the 2018 general election.
Amar Singh, then Bukit Aman’s commercial crime chief, said CCTV footage showed 23 individuals transporting the items on May 11 and 12, 2018, using government vehicles. The apartment unit, under renovation at the time, later became the focus of police raids linked to 1MDB investigations.
During the raid on May 17, officers discovered bags filled with foreign currency and jewellery, along with orange boxes containing luxury handbags. Singh described how cash and jewellery spilled out when the bags were opened, prompting police to carefully repack and secure the items before transferring them to Bukit Aman.
The testimony came in connection with a lawsuit filed by Lebanese jeweller Global Royalty Trading SAL against Rosmah Mansor, seeking the return of 43 pieces of jewellery valued at US$14.6 million.
Another senior officer, Sakri Arifin, confirmed that his team raided the Pavilion Residences unit, finding jewellery, cash, and handbags. He noted that a police photographer was present, though he was unsure if video recordings were made.
The hearing continues before Justice Quay Chew Soon.
